Awakening

Orb of light
Frosted at the edges
Pulsing without heat
Crystalline
Or saccharine
Dampened

Or damaged
By salt water
Falling freely
Silently
Persistently
Like streams that carve out
Caverns
Beneath the earth
Stone that could not stand
In water’s way
Softened and smooth
Edgeless

Formed as it erodes
Its own foundation
Giving up
The futile ghost
Of resilience
Or resistance
To will
That manifests as flow
Or undertow
Substance slowly stolen
Swept away
With the current
Irresistible

Stone to silt
And silt to sand
Broken by the ocean
By the beating waves
Tireless
Upon the shore

Like stardust
Tumbling on
Eternally
Taking shape
House and home
To heart and soul
Reborn
Infused anew
With breath and warmth

Alive
Alight
Awakening

One Response to Awakening

  1. Paul Jacob says:

I’m not much into poetry but this one reached me. I spent 8 years on the shores of Lake Huron (Bruce County) and walking on pebbles or sand along the shore was rather calming, introspective for me.
    Be well.
