100 words on “Alabaster (The Winter King Mix)” from Shades of Winter
When I used to teach at a nature Montessori school on Toronto Island, we would walk the kids from the ferry to the school and back again every day in every season. Watching the colour of the water in Lake Ontario change with the days as they grew colder was magical. The waves would freeze along the shoreline, the sand covered in snow the colour of alabaster glittering in the sun. Closing my eyes I left a marker there and when I got home channeled that blazing canvas into notes on the piano with no other guide than the memory.
