  1. Pity the Gelth

Gwyneth lives in Cardiff, Wales in 1869. She hears what she calls angels speaking to her, but keeps it quiet because she doesn't want anyone to know she has the Sight. On Christmas Eve, Charles Dickens is giving a recitation that is spectacularly interrupted when the spirit of a resurrected fan sends his audience screaming from the theatre. However nothing is as it seems, and that's as it should be in a Doctor Who Christmas episode.

Based on "The Unquiet Dead" (reboot S1 E3) this Whovian power ballad tells the story from Gwyneth's POV (played by the glorious Eve Myles). Everything that belongs in a Christmas song is here: zombies, seances, time travel, Dickens, and a 19 yo woman saving the world.

Lyrics

Ever since I was a girl
There's been something strange
'Bout the way I see
Mother said I had the Sight
But that's just between you and me

Now I'm alone in the world
Keeping order here
In the House of the Dead
I hear them whisper sometimes
But it's probably all in my head

Angels call my name, saying
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, Gwyneth!
Day after day it's the same: they say
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, girl!
(Tell me more)

There are some secrets I hide
I don't want the world to know
It's unnatural
The dead like the living arising
And going for walks in the snow
(It's factual)

I think we're losing control
But the mortician here
Isn't listening
They're in the walls
In the lamps in our halls
And they're gaseous and glistening

Angels call my name, saying
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, Gwyneth!
Day after day it's the same: they say
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, girl!

The angels call my name, saying
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, Gwyneth!
Day after day it's the same: they say
Pity the Gelth!
Piteous girl!

They need a bridge to cross over
From their world to this
(Pity the Gelth!)
Come to me, angels, I'll help you
And I'll stand at the rift
(Pity us, girl!)
Christmas in Cardiff with
Dickens, the Doctor and Rose
(Pity the Gelth!)
I never dreamed we'd be
Spending it here in the morgue
I suppose it could be worse

Oh, huh

I've got wings of flame!
And now millions of Gelth say
LOOK AT US, GWYNETH!
I'm not the girl I became, saying
WE ARE THE GELTH!
AND THIS IS OUR WORLD!

The angels called my name, saying
Pity the Gelth!
Pity us, Gwyneth!
I'll send them back
Where they came from
Pity the Gelth
Pity the girl no more!

Pity the Gelth
Pity the girl no more!
Pity the Gelth
Pity the girl no more
