100 words on “Tatooine Blues” written for 50/90 2010
Hot on the heels of my discovery that George Lucas had imagined a whole list of musical genres for Star Wars, I wrote a Tatooine Blues song. On the third JoCoCruise I sang it a cappella on talent night because they didn’t have a keyboard, which is where I got the handle invisiblepiano. This song has seen my voice through a dozen transformations and personal incarnations, as I’ve figured out control, dynamics and style, accompaniment and collaborators. It feels good to reclaim it as one of my own, the way it began, and find new ways to express its angst.
