“Fate is Twisted” written for FAWM 2025
There’s a reason we keep telling epic tragic romance stories where lovers are thwarted by circumstance, family, social expectation, or some other clever impediment authors dream up. I get it. Especially when I was younger. But the older I grow the more critical I become of the wall itself. I want to analyze it and test it for weak spots. Sometimes we can’t be who we want to be out loud with the people we want to be make noise with. Often the reasons are rooted in stigma or social norms. Yet love survives, regardless. So there, obstacles. Thwart that.
