“Nature of Truth” from Dance in the Rain (20th Anniversary Release)
More than 20 years ago I stepped into a studio for the first time. I had no idea what I was doing. I’d never played piano to a metronome before, and until I did, I had no idea how erratic my tempo was. My lyrics told every facet of the story instead of pointing to the truth I hoped the listener would find. I cared more about rhyme schemes and strictly adhering to metre than I did about the sound of the song overall. But songs like this were stepping-stones to the songwriter I’ve become and I’m grateful for them.
