“The Witch’s Lover” with Cathy McManamon written for FAWM 2025
My final collaboration of the month turned out to be a lullaby with a dear friend and tourmate. Mandrake is a witch’s plant and has been for centuries and longer. It’s often been associated with black magic because of its deadly capabilities, but it was also used as an aphrodisiac, anesthetic, hallucinogen, in spellwork, and as a cure for madness. Definitely don’t use it for these things as it can most certainly kill you, and not because a demon shrieks from its roots. However, even when a plant is dangerous we can develop a relationship and write a love song.
