Strychnos nux vomica (historically our primary source of strychnine) does some terrible things to the body. Do not look it up, unless you are of the morbid persuasion. Risus sardonicus is the gruesome smile of a person poisoned by this stuff. There are LOADS of references to the plant and its associations in the lyrics. Safe within the boundaries of the song, I am free to torture the deserving.

I was so excited to be invited to contribute to this song when Leslie asked. I love metal, and symphonic metal best🖤.
Then when they shared their research with me, I realized that in my childhood my naturopathically inclined mother actually dosed us with (harmless) Nux Vomica😯, so that added another layer to this.
Sapient: A metal song? About poisoning?? With operatic vocals??? Yes! I'm in! And what an absolute delight to be able to take these soaring vocals from two amazing singers and blend them into these slamming riffs.
